Folks,

It's probably a good time to let everyone know my plans for the
coming weeks.

First off, I have several features from likewise-winbindd that
need to push packaged and pushed upstream to Samba. The main
one is the name alias interface (more details in a later email).

Secondly, we need to generate an package some man pages for
the domainjoin-{cli,gui} tools, idmap plugin, & likewise-winbindd.

Next, I have a large amount of new code from the Likewise
Enterprise product to merge to the join utilities. This will
result in cleaner error code reporting, unified code paths
for domain join activities from both the command line and GUI
tools (which now are different code bases, one in C and one
in C#). Also I will be pulling changes from upstream Samba
v3-2-test for future integration into likewise-winbindd. I'll
post links to my development git-dev trees soon.

Gitweb is coming to http://git.likewisesoftware.com/ soon. Stay
tuned.

Also in the works, we're already working with maintainers from
various Linux distributions to integrate likewise-open with
Gnome desktops and server distros. Which means that everyone
should have access to the domain join functionality with your
distro of choice.

There's already a plan for including likewise-open in Ubuntu
Hardy (8.04). The first upload should be close to the same
time as the Hardy Alpha 2 release (maybe a little bit late for
the ISO).

On a closing note, I've decided to call these weekly updates
a Mashup because according to the pop culture definition
from widipedia,

  "....Mashup usually means:

    * Mashup (web application hybrid), a web application that
combines data and/or functionality from more than one source
    * Mashup (music), a musical genre of songs that consist
entirely of parts of other songs
    * Mashup (video), a video that is edited from more than
one source to appear as one
    * Mashup, in parts of the UK means a mash or pot of tea
(colloq. Yorkshire), other areas brew or stand tea"

So while the last definition really doesn't fit, the first three
highlight my intention that Likewise Open be a community project
driven by efforts from various developers and companies.

cheers, jerry
