In general, the portability of Likewise Open across more
than on linux distro or release is a big advantage for most
network admins (given that everyone has a mixture of clients).
For example, have the same support on Solaris, Mac, AIX,
HP-UX, and Linux means that you can really select the best
operating system for the job that you need to do (file server,
web server, mail server, etc...) without being tied to which
one has integrated authentication with AD.

I'm guessing you are asking about the uid and gid information
is determined.  This is done using a local hashing algorithm.
